On July 28 we celebrated Petra Gonzalez 101st birthday! She is as sharp as ever. Born in Puerto Rico, Petra’s life has been marked by her love for God. She loves to sing and you can often hear her after mass in the back of the Chapel singing to the Lord. She is truly a soul of charity. Each day she delivers lunch to one of the Residents who does not come to the dining room, one of her many daily acts of charity. She is an inspiring example of a person who is a true disciple of the Lord.
Her daughter was able to join us for the party. It was very touching to see how many of the Residents purchased small gifts, flowers etc. to offer her. We played Bingo, her favorite game. She enjoyed every minute of it! One of the kitchen staff made Coquito (Puerto Rican egg nog!) and flan, another favorite Puerto Rican dessert. Everyone LOVED both desserts!
